Book Burning
© September 4, 2014, Roy Stucky

Book-burning casualties of style
Executed without trial.
No legal challenge needs to seal the format's fate.
It's just too late to save the obsolescent reading.

No feeble resistance must be overcome
To capture the pages we dump by the ton
To save modern man's attention and space.
Legacy's being erased.

You tell me the books are not worth such a fuss,
That I'm far too old for technology's bus.
Since I disagree that is proof I am mad.
You wish I'd be still since senility's sad.

Book burning
People learning
To throw the words away
Not knowing what they say.
Book burning
Garbage turning
Sight to ash and smoke -
Free spending by the broke.

Far too heavy -
Far too thick.
Jettison converted sticks
For pretty moving pictures.
Far too boring -
Far too hard
Burn my memory on a card
To fit the chosen fixtures.

Paper is too awkward -
Paper's day is past.
Comprehension needs a photograph.
Atoms are too cluttered -
Electrons drive our need.
Constant motion generation
Never learned to read.
