Society of Despair
© February 1988, Roy Stucky

Say wait 'til I'm older
But I've no time for that.
Everyone knows sudden
Death is the modern trap.

What I wait I won't live to,
'Cause this world is through.

Get it while you can
'Cause the curtain's coming down.
Too many bombs to ban
And too much poison to drown.

I'm a child of
The society of
Despair.
I live for today
'Cause tommarrow's not there.
Why care for a future none can share?
Why save for a rainy day
If the rain will melt the air?

You tell me there is hope
But I've seen your holy dream.
No one but a fool believes
In salvation by machine.

Get it while you can
'Cause the curtain's coming down.
Too many bombs to ban
And too much poison to drown.

I'm a child of
The society of
Despair.
I live for today
'Cause tommarrow's not there.
Why care for a future none can share?
Why save for a rainy day
If the rain will melt the air?

Get it while you can
'Cause the curtain's coming down.
Too many bombs to ban
And too much poison to drown.

We thought we were the rulers
But turned out to be the clowns.

This song is about the undercurrent in our society of young people who believe they have nothing to live for
