Sight of God's Back
© October 7, 2007, Roy Stucky

The crack in the wall is a temporary thing.
At the sight of the crown you're a momentary king.
Experience sings then the present is past.
A life in an instant's too potent to last.

A glimpse of God's garden,
A dance on God's lawn,
A taste of God's vintage
And then it is gone.
The gemstone of fire
Has faded to black.
I can't even handle
The sight of God's back.

Every group in every time
Has every chance to read the sign.
The modern man's too stiff to pray
Though spirit's just one breath away.

A glimpse of God's garden,
A dance on God's lawn,
A taste of God's vintage
And then it is gone.
The gemstone of fire
Has faded to black.
I can't even handle
The sight of God's back.

Luminescent moments rise
And spread their flame before our eyes.
But moderns see mere lightning flash
And call the call a thunder crash.

A glimpse of God's garden,
A dance on God's lawn,
A taste of God's vintage
And then it is gone.
The gemstone of fire
Has faded to black.
I can't even handle
The sight of God's back.

God's anguish is finer than statues of gold.
I long to possess what my first birthright sold.
Once touched by the Spirit you're never the same.
The earnest is precious, how much more the claim?

A glimpse of God's garden,
A dance on God's lawn,
A taste of God's vintage
And then it is gone.
The gemstone of fire
Has faded to black.
I can't even handle
The sight of God's back.
