Alone in the kingdom I know as myself -
I'd like to believe it's a realm of great wealth.
I see many people but fail to relate.
My visitors seldom advance past the gate.

The chasm cut around my soul defies the slender spans
That reach like hands whose secret rites unite divided clans.
I wish the way was open though I doubt I'd dare to tell.
I stand beside the bridge and wonder if I hid too well.

I long for the bridge to lead anyone near -
Yet put on a mask to conceal deeper fear.
My timid expression pretends to be fierce.
I use what I dread is a wall none can pierce.

The chasm cut around my soul defies the slender spans
That reach like hands whose secret rites unite divided clans.
I wish the way was open though I doubt I'd dare to tell.
I stand beside the bridge and wonder if I hid too well.

Existence itself is what holds us apart -
The space that's between every face haunted heart.
The words and the gestures aren't up to the task.
I hope for the bridge but still cling to the mask.

The chasm cut around my soul defies the slender spans
That reach like hands whose secret rites unite divided clans.
I wish the way was open though I doubt I'd dare to tell.
I stand beside the bridge and wonder if I hid too well.
