Receipts
© October 5, 2008, Roy Stucky

The time has come when I must stand alone.
The lovers left to go back home.
My heartbeat sounds a cry I can't avoid.
The party noise now fades into the void.

When did life lead me to this?
How many turns did I miss?
Where is the joy I desire?
Why am I playing with fire?

Through the tangle of branches I see the way
High above all the roles I have tried to play.
At my feet lie receipts for each broken claim
I received in exchange for another's gain.

Once a toy now a thing if I serve a need,
I'll be dropped in a hole where the damaged bleed.
For a time silk and wine seemed my best two friends,
But these means have unseen and bitter ends.

That mountain is a candle the red moon has set aflame.
Such beauty has a power I cannot begin to name.
The thought of someone gazing on the same ascent as me
Expands the pool of feeling to a billow trodden sea.

Through the tangle of branches I see the way
High above all the roles I have tried to play.
At my feet lie receipts for each broken claim
I received in exchange for another's gain.

I face the deep unknown and leave my past behind.
I stand against the thoughts that once destroyed my mind.
The Truth has open arms where lies hold naught but spines
Return to realms that God's agape Love combines.
