Arrogant Slime
© June 10, 2005, Roy Stucky

How can it be,
This world I see?
The message I'm sent
Is it's all an accident.

It seems quite odd
This modern god
Lacks any thought or choice -
Yet you have face and voice.

Arrogant slime.
Free-fall climb.
Arrogant slime.
Just add time.

Random chance
Stellar dance
As we advance into the new.
The grand expanse
Of circumstance
As we advance without a clue.

Arrogant slime.
Free-fall climb.
Arrogant slime.
Just add time.

Your dogma's shallow as a petri dish.
Your nihilism's just a coward's wish.
The phantom soul your herd disdains
Defies accepted test tube games.

Arrogant slime.
Free-fall climb.
Arrogant slime.
Just add time.

The idea behind this song is that the modern man says his origin is from some sort of primordial soup or, as the song calls it, from slime. How utterly arrogant to believe you think but that the universe is senseless. Almost as senseless as thinking you can start with slime and end up with human beings and elephants if you just wait long enough.

This fantasy is driven by a desire to only accept things people can touch. Where did we get the idea our physical senses have a monopoly on reality? We certainly did not get that idea from our senses, which we routinely fool.
