Time in a Spiral
© 1999, Roy Stucky

I'm up before the sun
Since I land at work by six.
I think there's something wrong
That I don't know how to fix.

The warp of shifting time
Seems to leave me in a twist.
So tired of fighting signs
I can't even make a fist.

Time in a spiral
Merely survival
Time in a spiral
Mocks my denial
That I'm running out of sand,
Flowing through the clenching of my hand.

The cosmos spins around,
All the while it's running down.
Before the sun goes dark
Human pride will leave a mark.

Time in a spiral
Late on arrival
Time in a spiral
Mocks my denial
That I'm running out of sand,
Flowing through the clenching of my hand.

Will I redeem each token day
Before the chance has slipped away?
The end will come as God decreed
Despite our narrow minded greed.

Time in a spiral
Merely survival
Time in a spiral
Late on arrival
Time in a spiral
Mocks our denial
That we're running out of sand,
Flowing through the clenching of our hands.
