"Listen. Those who suffer from this illness (imaginary loneliness) need only a couple of disappointments to make them believe that there is no link between them and other people, that all people go about in a state of complete loneliness, that they never really understand each other, share anything, or have anything in common. It also happens that people who suffer from this sickness become arrogant and regard all healthy people who can understand and love each other as flocks of sheep. If this sickness were general, the human race would die out."
Hermann Hesse

I, who had been isolated for so long, learned about the companionship which is possible between people who have tasted complete loneliness. I never again hankered after the tables of the fortunate."
Hermann Hesse

"In isolation there may be growth of a sort, but only in relationship with others can there be full development."
Colin Turnbull

"Love goes very far beyond the physical person of the beloved. It finds its deepest meaning in his spiritual being, in his inner self. Whether or not he is actually present, whether or not he is still alive at all, ceases to be of importance."
Victor Frankl

"Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the Head of the Church and the Savior of the Body. Therefore the Church is subject to Christ, so let wives be to their own husbands in every thing."

"Husband, love your wives even as Christ loved the Church, and gave Himself for it, that He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing to water by the Word, that He might present it to Himself a glorious Church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any such thing, but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself."
Ephesians 5:22-28

The predominance of sermons directed toward the wife and ignoring the husband's commandment is a disgrace. If the husband is willing to endure anything remotely resembling the cross for his wife, it stands to reason submitting to such a man will not be odious. Note the inititative of sacrifice is the husband's, since Jesus died for us while we were His enemies, and in fact His murderers. Husbands, do not dare throw this passage in your wife's face unless you have already obeyed its admonision.

The fact that this passage has been grossly twisted to be so misunderstood as to be taken as a command that any woman should obey any man, does not change this passage. It means unskilled workers have been handling the sword of Truth, and in the process cut their clumsy hands, and cut those around them as well.

"Truth indeed came once into the world with her divine Master, and was a perfect shape most glorious to look on: but when he ascended, and his Apostles after him were laid asleep, then straight arose a wicked race of deceivers, who, as that story goes of the Egyptian Typhon with his conspirators, how they dealt with the good Osiris, took the virgin Truth, hewed her lovely form into a thousand pieces, and scattered them to the four winds."

"From that time ever since, the sad friends of Truth, such as durst appear, imitating the careful search that Isis made for the mangled body of Osiris, went up and down gathering up limb by limb, still as they could find them. We have not yet found them all, Lords and Commons, nor ever shall do, till her Master's second coming; he shall bring together every joint and member, and shall mould them into an immortal feature of loveliness and perfection."
John Milton
