Your hair was fine as the silken thread
That adorned the cloth tied upon your head.
And we ran the highway demons down
On the miles that stood between the towns
Where there lived a man who looked like me.

Now I'm miles from home
But drive alone
And those highway demons leer.
I lock all the doors
Like I did before
But there's still a scent of fear.

I recall that night
When your eyes were bright
Like the light from an early dawn.
I turn to the right
Like during the fight
But of course your eyes are gone.

The sign outside
Says I must decide
If it's time to leave the road.
I wish this rhyme
Could go back in time
And not let my world explode.

My guide's a white faced broken line
Running in the dark.
It leads me down a steep decline
Like the rain falling off the Ark.

Words in herds of vain contrast,
Times like lines are moving fast.
Mirrors look into my past,
An open book that did not last.
