Disaster's Autograph
© May 23, 2007, Roy Stucky

Carved upon a tombstone's cheek -
One forsaken epitaph.
"If I alone am left to speak
I'm disaster's autograph."

The chasm's secret cost
Hid a fine veneer of frost.
The tongues that tasted truth
Found no yearning in the youth.

The voices of the valiant
Raised a boast for all the brave.
Now we shrink before the shades
That glide among the graves.

Carved upon a tombstone's cheek -
One forsaken epitaph.
"If I alone am left to speak
I'm disaster's autograph."

If this is the road then we took the wrong route.
If I am the voice my generation's gone mute.
Our only defense is we thought we had time
To display discontent through demands for a sign.

Carved upon a tombstone's cheek -
One forsaken epitaph.
"If I alone am left to speak
I'm disaster's autograph."
