Going Back
© April 1988, Roy Stucky
In a tumult
I grew up to join the cult
Of the power adult.
I thought myself refined
But someone left behind
Sought to remind me
Of the time when I was free.
Going back,
Back for the child
To purify a heart defiled
By armor's war
On simple joys,
The living child.
Hearth return -
Planet turn
To face the sun.
Adult advance
With child dance -
Finally one.
Touch the loving trust
Pain cannot crush
When Jesus says come
To me all weary to the core,
All you broken and sore,
And I will give you rest.
Going back,
Back for the child
To purify a heart defiled
By armor's war
On simple joys,
The living child.
If wonder dies what's left to gain
Through our economic brain?
Can't you hear it?
Life is knit
To all with Spirit.
Can't oh can't you hear it?
Going back,
Back for the child
To purify a heart defiled
By armor's war
On simple joys,
The living child.
Lifted in my arms the one
I exiled -
Joyous charm flows from
The reborn child.

"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious.
It is the source of all true art and science. He to whom this emotion
is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe,
is as good as dead: his eyes are closed."
Albert Einstein
