Your passage through society commonly leaves as little trace as does a car upon the fog through which it moves. But it leaves many marks upon your heart. Here the isolation is imposed.

Existential isolation combined with the rejection of 'ugly' asylumthink doubles the alienation, now being both existential and social. Where we were at first merely alone, now we are lonely. In such a state a person is extremely vulnerable to the predatory nature of the world, being, as it were, cut from the herd.

Existential isolation is made somewhat easier to endure by being universal. By contrast, social isolation is highly unequal. Everyone knows someone whom, it seems, 'can do no wrong'. Anger, even hate, is a natural reaction to this injustice. But compared to the things done to Jesus by those He came to save from Hell, what have you suffered? Remember the parable of the unforgiving servant.

If we fall into the flesh reaction of hate, we become active participants in the cycle of hatred and abuse. But if we respond with forgiveness, we become agents of the God who returns love for hate, who does good to the undeserving and ungrateful, who died for His enemies. This is how the hate cycle is broken, since if no one forgives, hate will be recirculated for the rest of time.

Do not think the SS guard Corrie Ten Boom led to Jesus would have been moved by reproaches. If he'd had such a soul, he'd not have participated in mass murder to begin with. But he came face to face with God when he confronted her forgiveness. Thus is the grace of God made visible.

Mirror Covenant touches again and again on the theme of forgiveness and compassion. This song examines how we are to react to evil aimed at us personally. It is easier to forgive a stranger's misuse of humanity in general, but how we react to personal attack is the genuine mark of how closely we are walking in Jesus' footsteps.

To be whole, we must rise to a level above letting our self image be formed by our peers, whether their opinion of us is good or bad. Then we must move higher still, and return blessing for cursing, love for hate. A person who is whole is not threatened by the negative opinions of others, but rather has compassion on those people who cannot relate to others as human beings, realizing such a life is it's own form of loneliness.
