Meaningless
© 2001, Roy Stucky

Where once he searched for answers
To make the reasons clear,
Contention stole his courage -
Consigned him to his fear.

"Everything is meaningless
From earth to life to sky.
Everything is meaningless
There are no reasons why.
Everything is meaningless,"
His desperations whine.
Where everything is meaningless
Hope withers on the vine.

He says the storms and pain
Are easier to take
When he can lay the blame
On giant blind mistakes.

"At last I'm finally free,"
Is what first came to mind.
But that won't meet the need
He thought he'd left behind.

An endless drifting sea
Without a harbor's shore -
He casts away his seed
'Cause he can't plant it any more.

"Everything is meaningless
From earth to life to sky.
Everything is meaningless
There are no reasons why.
Everything is meaningless,"
His desperations whine.
Where everything is meaningless
Hope withers on the vine.

"Everything is meaningless."
"Everything is meaningless."

Quotations

"Today people are spared tension. First of all, this lack of tension is due to that loss of meaning which I describe as the existential vacuum, or the frustration of the will to meaning."
Viktor Frankl
